Nick's Guys Weekend

While I had the girls in town for the weekend, Nick decided to go on an adventure of his own.  Evan, one of his best friends and college roommates is working in Richmond for a few weeks.  They decided it was the perfect opportunity to meet up for a camping weekend.  They met on the Cow Pasture River in George Washington National forest in central VA.  Nick was able to rent a canoe from VT.  They spent the weekend fishing, swimming and camping.  It was a perfect weekend besides a run in with a crazed man who Nick and Evan affectionately called "Old Man Crystal Meth."  You will have to ask Nick for the story behind that one.

Girls Weekend

A few weeks ago, a few of my best girlfriends came up to Blacksburg for our annual girls weekend.   I met Stacey and Taylor in 8th grade and I have known Emily since we were babies!  We have always made it a priority to stay in touch throughout college, moves and major life changes.  After college we decided that we would dedicate one weekend a year for a girls weekend.  This was our third annual weekend and we decided Blacksburg was the place since they have not all been here yet.   We are all going in different directions in life, but I am so thankful that whenever we are together we just pick right up where we left off.  We decided we could have done nothing but sit in our pajamas and talked all weekend and it would have been the best ever-  anything else we did was just an added bonus!

Friday night we had a bonfire and smores in our backyard.  Saturday we hiked at Cascades.  The weather was beautiful and because there was a VT home football game there were very few people there.

Emily just accepted an OT job in Boston and is moving in just a few weeks!  Stacey is traveling across the US with one of her roommates and is going to be living in Oregon for the next few months.  Crazy!

Taylor just got married this summer to Luke!

Saturday night we went to dinner at one of our favorite places around here-  The River Company.  It was delicious and so much fun to celebrate all that is going on in our lives right now.

Sunday morning we woke up to fulfill a dream of Taylor's- tubing!  Nick and I have a few tubes and we borrowed a few more headed out to the New River.  We tubed for a few hours just enjoying the scenery and each others company!

I am so glad you girls made the trip!  It was a great weekend- one of our best yet!

Floyd

A few weeks ago, Nick and I headed to Floyd, VA to listen to some blue grass music.  Floyd is a cute little town about 45 minutes away that is known locally for their blue grass.  Every Friday, they have the Jamboree in the Country Store.  The small town is packed with a wide variety of people who enjoy good music.

Here is the view coming into town-  it was a beautiful night!

You can pay to go into the country store and sit down to watch the show, but we have actually never done that.  There is so much to see with out being in the store.  People come with their instrument of choice and then join in with other people and just start playing on the sidewalk.  The town has actually built small alcoves into the streets, for this purpose!  We love walking around, enjoying each different group and taking in the music.

We were happy to see improvements in Floyd even since the last time they were there.  There is an open air market where people are selling crafts and well as a new pizza restaurant we would like to try.  There is a tasting room as well where you can taste local wine, beer and cider.   We love Friday nights in Floyd!

Kelly's Knob

One of the great things about living in Blacksburg is that we are really close to the Appalachian Trail.  There is a hike we have been wanting to do called Kelly's Knob and decided to go on Labor Day.  It was a beautiful day in the mountains and a perfect end to summer!

It was about 2 miles to the top where we were rewarded with an amazing view!

On the way home we saw the most beautiful sunset and couldn't stop snapping pictures of the beautiful scenery.   The drive was almost as pretty as the hike!  We highly recommend this place.
